Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the U.S. She's worked as media critic since. She created Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as blogger. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit website that focuses on female representations in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. In her efforts to dispel the myths of women that have been portrayed in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of the Internet space. Sarkeesian who has a Master's in Political and Social thought from York University, is a well-known public speaker. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. When she was a student at the university she became fascinated by the issue of gender equality and the rights of women from a young age. The ambitious young lady was harassed on the internet for her website featuring a series about gender and videogames. She was not deterred by the harassment, actually, it just reinforced her drive to become an expert on media and feminism. Numerous awards have been given to her for all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit that explores the representations of women within pop cultural narratives.
